So What's The Deal With Filet o' Funk?
Well, some say they play funk. Some say it's more like fusion. And some call their music jazz on another level. Like the groove music of today.
Filet o’ Funk has taken the traditional jazz form and brought it into the new millenium. Pushing the creative boundaries of rhythm, melody, writing, and arranging, the trio has continued to inspire musicians, restaurant and club owners, and fans through their unique grooves and style.
The band's large repetoire includes music from today's influential jazz-funk greats (such as John Scofield, Soulive, and Medeski, Martin and Wood), as well as recreations of music of the masters (such as Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, and Charles Mingus), but with a more modern feel. The band also writes their own material, and in a given set you're bound to hear some Filet o' Funk original tunes.
Filet o' Funk is made up of Brian Orr (keyboards), Andrew Taylor (bass), and Marty Cote (drums). The band started as a trio in May 2002 and made their debut performance at the Raintree Cafe on August 2nd, 2002. Steve Little (guitar) joined the band in October 2002, and performed with Filet o' Funk until September 2003. The band is again working together in its original trio formation, and currently performs throughout the Kitchener-Waterloo and Greater Toronto Area regions.
