The reason George W. Bush is no longer a failure (in Google Search, that is).

Life Update

Posted 2007-02-07 09:47:04

Well, those of you who know me may already be aware that I moved in the last week. I was living in Port Credit (south-end of Mississauga) and have moved into Toronto to be closer to work and have more accessibility to the city's nightlife.

The troubles I was encountering in Mississauga were largely related to commuting. I was taking the GO Train into work, which in some ways can be nice, but other ways, very limiting and frustrating.

The GO train has nice big seats and is very comfortable compared to the TTC. However, the downside is once you miss the rush-hour trains, the schedule falls to one train per hour. There were numerous times I would finish work and have just missed my window of opportunity to catch the next train, so I'd be stuck for close to an hour.

Related to that is if I wanted to spend the evening in the city (hitting the gym after work; having drinks with co-workers; dinner with friends), I'd be constantly watching the clock to make sure I didn't miss that next train.

The commute home even when I was hitting the right trains was lengthy. I'd leave work shortly after 5:00 pm, get to the train in enough time to find a seat, ride home, fight through the GO parking lot, drive home, and the end result was about an hour or so commute home by foot, train, and car.

Of course, living in the city has its downsides in a way too... I'm paying quite a bit more in rent, and some of the TTC stations and subways are filthy. But, at this stage in my life, I can afford more rent, and can live with a bit more grime. Plus, I'm getting about an hour back of my day and more freedom to make my own schedule, which for me is priceless. After all, all we really have in life is our time.

Work has been very busy recently, but interesting. I've been part of some very interesting projects (I shouldn't really disclose what they are here). Things could get interesting for the new year, we'll see how it pans out.

My musical life is of course ever-busy. The weekend before my move, I had 2 gigs in the old neighbourhood, and the weekend afterwards, 3 gigs in the new neighbourhood. So it worked out perfectly! It would have been infuriating if it had been the other way around :)

Life is good for The Jukes, as we've been busy, and are planning our next album now. I've been playing with Sandi Marie and Under The Bus every month at Grossman's for about a year now, and those gigs are always a ton of fun.

My Wedding and Corporate jazz band, The Diplomats, has been picking up steam too, and my rock band The Brewski Boys are ready to start up again for the New Year.

And finally, I'm turning 30 this year :( It will be sad to see my 20's fleet away, but I guess this gives me a good kick in the ass to refocus on some priorities too. Another milestone...
