So, anyone with a Gmail account should realize that when you're in your account, reading your emails, the Gmail software will scan your email and display ads with relevant "keywords".
Well, I've been aware of this for ages and regularly see web design, music services, etc advertised alongside my email.
However, I got a bit of a chill during an email thread this weekend. I was having a little email spat with a friend, and looked over at some of the ads. The ads were based around "bitter sentiments", and not any particular words or phrases in the email. So it was capturing the tone of the thread, more than the words.
I suppose I should have expected something like that, because I knew that was what Google was moving towards (or has arrived ad). Was just a little creepy looking over at the right-hand column and seeing those ads.
I saw "The Departed" this weekend - wow, what a movie. I'm told it is very similar to the original Hong Kong movie (almost scene for scene, from what I'm told), but this was a very entertaining movie. Very brutal in parts too, almost to the point of being ridiculous.
The cast was very solid - I was never a big Alec Baldwin fan years ago, but I think he's been really strong in recent years as a supporting actor. Hopefully he keeps it up!
Microsoft has released Internet Explorer version 7.0, just in time to beat out Firefox 2.0. Some people I know have tested it out already, and fortunately haven't seen any of the sites I work on crumble into a heap.
Supposedly its supposed to be more W3C compliant, which will be handy for developing around all those odd IE bugs (but may be a hassle to update all those little IE hacks to only "hack" around versions before IE 7).
I was at the GO Station yesterday in the morning, and Mayor David Miller was there campaigning at Long Branch Station. I thought it was an interesting place to campaign, as the station probably takes half Mississauga commuters, half Etobicoke, so half the people he shook hands with wouldn't even be able to vote for him. Well, I'm sure his campaign leader knows better than me, so who am I to say?
