Damn Mosquitoes!
Posted 2005-05-24 05:39:55
Back to work after a weekend at the cottage. Was a great time as usual, most of us got up on Friday night. The sun was out all weekend, which was nice since it countered the occassional cool wind we got.
My ankles and feet got really eaten up by mosquitoes, and I've had a tough time resisting the urge to scratch. Fortunately, my socks are preventing me from doing so this morning.
Also, the Time Posse was formed over the weekend. So you better know what time it is, or you'll get served, bi-atch! (yes, we were drinking)

Wishing For Longer Days
Posted 2005-05-08 09:02:14
Constantly, I wish days were longer so I could accomplish more.
I recently started using my Palm Pilot software to help organize my goals and to-do lists. Unfortunately, life keeps happening, which makes it tough for me to keep on top of this stuff. *sigh*
I think part of my problem is not having enough energy to 'go go go' after work. While I think I have more energy than I did when I was driving downtown (probably due to being much less frustrated at the end of the day), I find it's hard to sit down and get cracking on tasks.
Perhaps its a matter of stronger goal-setting (like dropping some less-important goals), and looking at the goals in terms of manageable steps.
Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Just Missed Paris....
Posted 2005-05-05 23:05:02
I was coming into the office on Tuesday in the late afternoon, and saw a huge lineup of teenagers at MuchMusic. I also saw that John Street was being blocked off at Queen, and was curious as to what was happening that evening (but didn't have time to stop and ask).
I had guessed it was going to be a street-version of Intimate and Interactive, but was wrong. It was a big love-in for Paris Hilton and her co-stars in the House of Wax movie coming out.
If only I'd known....I could have got on top of one of the buildings and pelted her with eggs.

Road Rage
Posted 2005-05-05 22:37:14
I came across a 'Voices' column on the Toronto Star website. It is regarding the rise in Road Rage in the GTA, inspired by Sgt Cam Woolley's statement after an accident the other day.
The below quote made me laugh:
Last week I had a motorist overreact when I changed lanes in front of him (seems he was racing up from behind). He proceeded around me to be in front, slammed on his brakes, then pulled over so he could follow. At the next red light, he got out, approached my closed window and shouted some aggressive words. The last I saw him in my mirror, he was beside his car as it held up traffic, with his hands to the sky. It seems he inadvertently locked himself out. Poetic justice?
- Lionel Bell
One of the things I've managed to do since starting a new job is take advantage of the GO train. I used to drive into work, and while I adjusted to driving in the city, there were aspects that still drove me crazy, such as:
drivers who don't signal
slow drivers
people who merge dangerously
One spot where I got annoyed on a regular basis was exiting the Ex on Lakeshore. There is a left lane that people will use to exit the Lakeshore, that will allow them to a) head straight onto Dufferin; or b) take a left hand turn to get onto the Gardiner.
One of the downfalls of this exit was the left turn was awkward (the drivers would have to turn left, but the exit is immediately all the way to the right, so they'd have to wait for complete clearance on all lanes to make the turn). As a result, drivers would regularly hurl their vehicles into the Lakeshore exit at the last possible moment to go straight, to avoid the Gardiner line-up. This resulted in some narrow avoidances of accidents some mornings.
So if you're driving in every morning and make some 'questionable' driving decisions on a daily basis, I kindly ask that you consider your actions more thoroughly in the future.

Double Bookings
Posted 2005-05-05 03:29:23
It happened again.
A few months ago, the Jukes had a gig scheduled for sometime in March at a venue that I won't name right now. The booker ended up scheduling two acts that night, and we got bumped. For the inconvenience, we got 2 make-up dates.
Well, guess what? The booker did it again to us for the 2nd of the make-up dates.
It becomes a real problem for us on a few levels. First, its embarassing to have it happen. Second, we've been working on releasing an album, and when doing financial planning for it, we count on the income from the future gigs. And finally, it makes it hard for us to promote a gig at a place where we *may* get bumped. How can we push hard for people to come out to a gig that may just get cancelled anyway. Sigh.
The band has thought about using contracts. We prefer to do the 'handshake deal' when possible, but sometimes you aren't left with a choice.
I'll fill in more details on a make-up date later on.

Too Boring For TV
Posted 2005-05-03 16:40:19
This past weekend, I was in Peterborough and had dinner with my parents. We were discussing the state of television, both TV series and broadcast news, and my Dad riffed on how all the American networks have female anchors showing a mile of leg, and the men being good looking and wearing million dollar suits.
Then, by chance, The Onion came out with this article, a joke on the same topic. Maybe my Dad will enjoy it.

Vote For The Worst
Posted 2005-05-03 14:33:41
VoteForTheWorst.com is a website calling on people to vote for the worst singer on American Idol ('Scott' is who've they've pegged, I haven't heard him or most of the others sing).
From what I understand, the end goal in mind is for the producers to be stuck promoting the worst singer possible. I find it kind of funny - if you would like to join their crusade, visit their site to find out how you can contribute to the cause.
*note* - the link above ended up going to some other site when I checked it later. Maybe Fox managed to shut them down.

The Jukes - Recording
Posted 2005-05-01 13:34:58
The Jukes are currently recording. We're putting together a full album, tentatively titled What A Night, and plan to have it out later in the summer.
It's been a great experience so far, we've been getting great insight from our producer/engineer Steve Grisbrook at Iridescent Music.
Anyhow, I'll be letting everyone know when we're ready to release it, and will provide information on how to get copy.

So I moved my site to a new server over the last few days. Things have gone well so far, but to be honest, haven't had time to check out every detail. If you have noticed something off, drop me a line here.
